Bio

Joel is the CEO of Flyhub Uganda, a financial technology subsidiary of Standard Bank Uganda Holdings. A certified digital money practitioner with expertise in digital product development, business process mapping and technology project management, Muhumuza has ten years of experience in the digital financial services arena having worked in Uganda , Kenya, Zambia, and South Africa. Prior to joining FlyHub, he held roles as the Country Director for JUMO East Africa(Uganda and Kenya), a digital lending Fintech -managing the Wewole product on Airtel Uganda and the Kopacash product in Kenya. Prior to this, Joel was the Manager Financial Services at Financial Sector Deepening Uganda, where we was responsible for managing projects and grants aimed at improving financial inclusion through investment in digital financial services on behalf of DFID and the Gates Foundation in areas ranging from remittances, merchant payments, application of blockchain for e-government services and a microinsurance challenge fund aimed at increasing insurance penetration in Uganda. He also worked as the Product and Business Development lead at UNCDF in Zambia and South Africa, as well as Commercial lead for the AppLab under Gates Foundation which pioneered a group lending wallet and digital ledger solution and one of the first connections of bank to mobile money wallets with Centenary bank and Pride MDI in 2014. Joel holds an MBA, Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, and a Digital Finance certification from Tufts University DFA program. He is also very passionate about philosophy and the intersection of technology, ethics and self-actualization.
